This is the second installment. I'm having a problem with getting a decent photo without shine but with clarity.... my scanner doesn't work either.

Really nice, love the detail.
You've captured his essence in a great way.
Love to see this finished!

Thanks Cynthia, It's taking the photo of the WIP that's causing problems. The ref pic is fine because I have it on my monitor...but i couldn't agree more. Your work is pure class by the way. I will be posting the finished article asap, but i think there will be at least one more Wip.....I'm a bit slow. :D

I don't think you're slow, there's a huge amount of small detail you're doing. As a tattoo artist, you're very precise in your detailing. It's part of the training, as you can't erase mistakes!
I look forward to seeing it finished! Brando had an amazing force of character, which I see it in your WIP.

I scan my work whenever I can, though my scanner has issues too. When a piece is too large, I photo it outside in ambient light, with a tripod. The final always goes into Photoshop to correct for contrast, to bring it as close to the drawing as I can (visually).

And thanks for the compliment :) I tend to be loose and sloppy in places, even if I do much of that on purpose. I choose charcoal because it prevents me from getting too tight...if you gave me a mechanical pencil I might sit there and render every tiny thing like a photo, forgetting to edit out and simplify. I don't want anyone to forget it's a drawing, or painting, when I'm finished.

Thanks for that Cynthia. I took the photo of WIP3 just inside the patio doors in mid afternoon and it has come out much clearer....the paper even looks white. :D
